  • Nick pursued his PhD in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia treatment research, studied the potential of Cyclin-Dependent Kinase inhibitors as treatment for PML subtype with particular poor prognosis. He was awarded his PhD in Dec 2018 and have his findings published in high impact journals such as Blood Advances and Letter to Blood. He has joined BGI in 2022, and is now a Field Application Scientist for spatial multi-omics innovation STOmics, committed to supporting researchers in Australia and New Zealand to achieve single cell level spatial transcriptomic study using this new cutting-edge technology.

  • Karthik earned his PhD from the University of Melbourne for his research on oxidative stress response in Salmonella. He is an accomplished researcher with a decade of experience in microbiology and bacterial genetics. During his postdoctoral tenure at the University of Queensland, he focused on bacterial genetic response to antibiotics. Currently, as a Field Application Scientist at MGI, Karthik lends his expertise in in sequencing and single-cell platforms while supporting the MGI Australia Customer Experience Center in Brisbane.

  • Haofei holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Queensland. Haofei has 5-year customer-facing experience as a seasoned Field Application Scientist specializing in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technics and NGS related automation platforms. She excels in providing comprehensive training and technical support to customers as well as in-depth trouble shooting. Dr. Wang’s extensive experience in pre- and post-sales support has significantly boosted customer satisfaction and contributed to product development. Haofei is currently managing the MGI Australia Customer Experience Center that offers assay and platform demonstration as well as customized workflow validation.

  • Hossein earned his Ph.D. from Swinburne University and UNSW, where he pioneered research on heart regeneration in mice using innovative micro/nano-engineered platforms. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Lowy Cancer Research Centre and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, specializing in circulating tumor cell analysis and single-cell sequencing. Hossein has published extensively in prestigious journals such as Small and Biomaterials, with his groundbreaking findings featured in Science Daily, AAAS, and Health Times. Awarded as one of Australia’s Top 30 Researchers in 2019, Hossein now serves as a Field Application Scientist at MGI, collaborating with leading institutions in Australia and New Zealand on genome sequencing and diagnostic lab automation.

  • Sharon is a seasoned expert in molecular genetics, genomics and Next Generation Sequencing with over 13 years of experience. After earning her degree from the University of Queensland, she joined the Australian Translational Genomics Centre in 2011 where she honed her skills in DNA sequencing, RNA sequencing, and methylation sequencing. Since 2019, Sharon has been a key member of MGI Australia, currently serving as the Technical Service Manager. In this senior role, she leads the provision of advanced technical and instrument service support for sequencing, automation platforms, and other cutting-edge products to customers across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring the highest standards of service and innovation.

  • Kira is a Field Application Scientist at STOmics, specializing in supporting the applications of STOmics spatial omics innovation in Australia and New Zealand. She joined BGI Research in 2017 as a senior researcher after earning her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Ghent University, Belgium. Dr. Sun has pioneered high-throughput metagenome sequencing technologies and contributed to significant research projects, including soil health monitoring in China and microbial diversity studies in the Xishuangbanna Rainforest. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Nature Communications and Plant Biotechnology Journal. She actively collaborates on international research projects.

  • Lewis is a Field Application Scientist & Field Service Engineer at MGI. With a solid background in laboratory automation and microbial clinical testing, he previously worked at Lancet Clinical Laboratories, conducting various microbial tests. At BGI Genomics Lewis excelled as an Automation Engineer, optimizing scripts and managing projects such as Thalassemia High Throughput Library Preparation. He also trained lab operators on new automated solutions. Lewis holds an Honours Degree in Applied Biology and Biochemistry from the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe, and a Master’s Degree in Biology focusing on Plant Genetics from Zhejiang Normal University, China.

  • Richard joined Applied Biosystems in 1996 and managed DNA Sequencing platforms during the groundbreaking sequencing of the first Human Genome in Australia and New Zealand. Richard pioneered Forensic DNA technology in the Asia Pacific region. At Bio-Rad Laboratories, he introduced Digital PCR technology in Oncology testing and organized the Annual Asian ddPCR Symposium, accelerating Asia's adoption of non-invasive Liquid Biopsy Cancer testing. Currently at MGI Australia, he joyfully introduces advanced genomics technology to scientists and clinicians in Australia and New Zealand.

  • Shengnan earned her PhD in Plant Genomics and Plant Engineering from the University of Queensland, where she specialized in the roles of RNA interference and epigenetics in gene expression regulation and genome responses to environmental changes. She joined MGI in 2023 and currently serves as a Field Application Scientist at the MGI Australia Customer Experience Center in Brisbane. In this role, Shengnan is responsible for developing and validating MGI NGS workflows for customers, as well as testing and optimizing both internal and customized automation scripts. She provides comprehensive pre- and post-sale support, ensuring seamless integration and operation of MGI’s cutting-edge technologies.
